SUMMARY:A Whole Embedded Model For Understanding Neurodivergence
DESCRIPTION:About this event \nThis workshop will help attendees conceptualise stress\, trauma\, and harm by accounting for the interplay between intrapersonal\, interpersonal\, and contextual stressors\, and their impact on mental health\, with a focus on neurodivergent communities. It will draw on a whole (embedded) model of stress\, trauma\, and harm\, which expands beyond typical universalised and decontextualised approaches to understanding relationships and trauma. In this model\, relationships are viewed not only as interpersonal\, but also as existing in conjunction with groups\, communities\, linguistics\, environments\, institutions\, and sociocultural and socio-political structures. \nA number of mainstream relational stress\, trauma and harm theories will be reviewed in light of this whole model\, including those addressing acculturation\, adverse childhood experiences (ACEs)\, normativity/variety\, historical trauma\, attachment\, intergenerational trauma\, introjections\, language\, structural policies\, culture\, and societal messages. These perspectives will be explored in relation to how they account for interconnected relationships in the experience of stress\, trauma\, and harm within these communities. \nTakeaways – Tools you’ll walk away with \n\nUnderstand a whole model for thinking about stress\, trauma\, and harm.\nConceptualise stress\, trauma\, and harm for neurodivergent clients\, with particular consideration of self and lived context (including opportunities for co-creation of possibilities).\nBegin developing an understanding of the overarching approach to embedding neurodiversity and neurodivergence into practice.\n\nAbout your Speaker: Mamood Ahmad (he/him) – Psychotherapist UKCP\, Trainer\, Author : A New Introduction to Counselling and Psychotherapy [Routledge books] \nMamood Ahmad is a Psychotherapist\, Course Tutor\, Speaker\, and whole-person DEI consultant\, as well as the founder of The Anti-Discrimination Focus (#TADF) community\, which was established in 2020\, and this community aims to promote equity by design within the educational foundations of therapeutic practice. As a UKCP Psychotherapist with almost two decades of experience in private practice\, with specialisms in trauma\, multicultural competence\, and advocacy\, his primary focus now is professional standards change. \nHe is the author of A New Introduction to Counselling and Psychotherapy (Routledge) which embeds neurodiversity/neurodivergence throughout causation\, self-development\, theory\, practice\, skills\, advocacy.
